A Guide to Mining Your Achievement Gold this Autumn

The Achievement Code #19: Harvest Your Achievements

Seasonal Soul,

The days are getting shorter, there's a crispness in the air, and the leaves are changing change colour.

Autumn is officially on its way, and while a part of me used to dread this transition, I now see it as an opportunity for something more.

It's a time to pause, reflect, and be grateful for the lessons and growth of summer.

This week’s newsletter urges you to embrace this sentiment and shows you how to find your own achievement gold this Autumn.

Harvest Moon & Festival

When I was at school, we had a Harvest Festival every year. The aim of this was to celebrate the harvest and food grown on the land.

It would take place every year close to the Harvest Moon.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the Autumn equinox, that provided extra hours of bright moonlight to farmers in the past.

This would typically be in September or October. This year it falls on Monday, October 6th. Save the date!

We'd sit in the school gym, cross-legged, admiring a colourful display of fruits and vegetables brought in by classmates.

I even remember some people bringing in canned goods, which I find quite amusing now.

Obviously, I didn’t know I’d be writing this newsletter back then, so I’ve borrowed some images from the internet.

Why bring Harvest Festival up?

Looking back, the Harvest Festival was a simple, powerful tradition.

It was an opportunity to celebrate what we had cultivated and managed to get together, whether it was a massive pumpkin, a handful of carrots or even a cereal box that we’d only remembered to bring in that morning.

It was a demonstration of gratitude and appreciation and an opportunity to reflect on the abundance in our lives.

This memory made me wonder: how often do we, as adults, truly take stock of our own lives?

I think we should do it more often.

We don’t need to have a festival with fruit and vegetables, but we can create our own traditions.

The Seasonal Souls Harvest

In the spirit of a modern-day Harvest Festival, I recently took some time to do a "stock take" of my own.

As I’ve shared before, I like to view my life through eight key areas, and I reflected on what I've learned and what actions I can take to embrace this season of reflection.

Here's what I found:

Area

Stock Take

Action

Adventure

Really enjoyed visiting new cities and towns in the UK this Spring / Summer.

Message Liz about visiting Newcastle in October.

Community & Connection

Actively celebrating what's important to others feels great.

When someone talks about what's important to them, ask them how it went.

Craft

Felt something was missing when I wasn't public speaking or running.

Start a second pathway at Toastmasters.

Family

Offering exact dates to meet up tends to work best.

Offer an exact date to see Mum and Dad before Christmas.

Health & Fitness

Gym work is so important to running performance.

Add a leg day and an upper body day to my weekly routine.

Romance

Doing new activities away from the house is a lot of fun.

Make a list of new activities and just do them.

Service

Receiving handwritten notes of appreciation feels great.

Buy a set of thank you/appreciation cards and start sending them out.

Wealth

A daily saving habit quickly adds up.

Reactivate the daily saving habit and treat myself to something each month.

The Code - Take Stock

The seasons aren’t just about the temperature outside, they’re about our inner world too.

This week, I urge you to do a simple “stock take” of your own.

Look back at the past few months, and ask yourself 2 questions:

  1. What have I learned?

  2. Where did I grow?

Then, take one small action to honour that growth.

Your Autumn Achiever,
